Microsoft to Invest $100 Bln in OpenAI

Global tech giants Microsoft and ChatGPT owner OpenAI are planning for a data centre project called Stargate, worth about $100 billion that would contain a supercomputer with millions of specialized server chips to power OpenAI’s artificial intelligence, based on a report of The Information on Friday.

The financing would be done by Microsoft, which is expected to be 100 times costlier than some of the data centres, mentioned the report.

In early 2023, Microsoft and OpenAI extended their partnership with multibillion-dollar investment to accelerate AI breakthroughs to ensure these benefits all over the world. The collaboration also extends across AI supercomputing and research.

A week ago, software developer Adobe collaborated with Microsoft to bring Adobe Experience Cloud workflows and insights with Microsoft Copilot to deliver generative AI-powered capabilities that enable marketers to increase collaboration, efficiency and creativity.

Microsoft has partnered with companies including Vodafone, Adobe, NVIDIA, AFL-CIO, Siemens, and Rockwell Automation in the past six months to expand its footprint in generative AI with the growing market of artificial intelligence.

In February, OpenAI launched a new text-to-video AI model called Sora which can create realistic, highly detailed scenes, and imaginative scenes from text instructions.

In late March, global e-commerce platform Amazon invested $2.75 billion in Anthropic to bring advanced generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) technologies to customers worldwide.
