Cognizant Launches Artificial Intelligence Lab in San Francisco

Tech giant Cognizant, on Thursday, launched an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) lab based in San Francisco to advance the science and practice of AI through innovation as well as the development of intellectual property and AI-enabled technologies.

In February, peer Wipro, with IBM, launched its enterprise artificial intelligence (AI) ready platform that will allow clients to create their enterprise-level, fully integrated, and customized AI environments. Also, India-based Infosys launched Responsible AI (RAI) as a part of Infosys Topaz, an AI-first set of services, solutions, and platforms using generative AI (GenAI) technology.

The lab will be led by Babak Hodjat, AI entrepreneur and inventor, under the supervision of the University of Texas at Austin AI Professor and neuroevolution pioneer, Risto Miikkulainen said the firm.

The new initiative is part of the $1 billion investment that was announced by Cognizant a year ago, for generative AI (GenAI) over the next three years.

In addition to the launch of Advanced AI Lab, Cognizant is supporting enterprise AI adoption through its AI Innovation Studios in London, New York, San Francisco, Dallas, and Bengaluru, said the IT consulting firm.

These studios serve as inspiration and co-innovation spaces that bring clients and associates together to identify and collaborate on new business solutions, the firm added.

The firm said the AI lab will focus on evangelizing gen AI-enabled decision-making solutions globally, and strengthening Cognizant as a knowledge hub for published, peer-reviewed research on AI as well as fostering an environment of continuous learning, innovation, and knowledge-sharing.

The lab will use the Cognizant Neuro AI platform to orchestrate Large Language Models (LLMs) into decision-making AI systems that can positively impact and optimize business outcomes said the firm.
