AWS Lays Off Hundreds of Sales, Marketing Staff

Amazon.com’s cloud division Amazon Web Service (AWS) cut hundreds of jobs hailing from sales and marketing teams, as well as physical store technology employees, reported Bloomberg on Wednesday.

“We’ve identified a few targeted areas of the organization we need to streamline in order to continue focusing our efforts on the key strategic areas that we believe will deliver maximum impact,” said AWS spokesperson to Business Tabloid.

“We didn’t make these decisions lightly, and we’re committed to supporting the employees throughout their transition to new roles in and outside of Amazon,” they added.

Amazon’s cloud computing platform employed about 30,000 jobs in local communities where AWS operates, based on Amazon’s fourth-quarter report

The parent firm, Amazon laid off more than 27,000 in 2022 and 2023, based on the report of Reuters, after the tech industry hired too many people during the pandemic.

Recently, the firm said it is planning to invest $5.3 billion and looking to launch an AWS infrastructure region in Saudi Arabia in 2026.

AWS also invested about $108 billion in Unites States cloud infrastructure from 2011 through 2022 and contributed nearly $38 billion in estimated gross domestic product to the U.S. economy based on its quarterly report.

The spokesperson of AWS also said, “These decisions are difficult but necessary as we continue to invest, hire, and optimize resources to deliver innovation for our customers.”
